And now for something completely different 2KCBWDAY5

Last year loyal readers may remember that we had a blog week, well there is going to be another one this year – whoop! Last year for whatever reason, I never finished my week’s posting, so I’ve challenged myself to finish last years before this years begins.

Experimental blogging day to try and push your creativity in blogging to the same level that you perhaps push your creativity in the items you create.

There are no rules of a topic to blog about (though some suggestions are given below) but this post should look at a different way to present content on your blog. This can take one of many forms, but here a few suggestions: Wordless, photographic post Video blog post Podcast Cartoon/sketch of an idea Write about a subject from a different perspective (for example, you could write about a day in the life of a knitted sock from the point of view of the sock). Interpretive modern dance (why does someone always suggest this? A poem or piece of rhyming verse Stop motion animation.

Today’s blog is being brought to you from my phone, which is rather apt as I wanted to tell you about my trip to Mimi’s house.

We got there on Saturday evening to the gorgeous smell of curry cooking and instantly got handed a glass of wine (that’s my girl 😉 ) and so the evening began.

I was given sock yarn for my Hexipuffs and had my first every sock knitting lesson. Mimi taught me how to cast on using a new method (long tail I believe it was) and how to start off my ribbing. At least that was the plan, I think it took us about three attempts each to make sure I had the correct amount of stitches on the needles… all that wine’s fault of course. When Mimi had eventually sorted me out, I got to it and have about an inch of ribbed cuff across four DPNs, it was a bit tricky as I’d never used them before, but I already feel like I’m getting the hang of it.

Spare Sock Yarn and Wine. :D

While chatting about sock knitting and being shown her spinning, Mimi also taught me a lot about different things I could do to my blog, I’m hoping to put some of them into practise sooner rather than later. I actually feel like I’ve been on a course for the weekend I have learned so much,  but a very enjoyable course with curry and wine and pancakes for breakfast!

Mimi, you were most excellent and I love you loads, it’s not just the Mr that’s Awsome, you both are. Thank you so much for a wonderful couple of days.

Now, when can I come back to sort out the heel…? 😀

I had to come back to this post at my PC as it wouldn’t let me insert the photo’s, boo.

Getting prepared

After reading one of the posts from the Blog Hub swap 2012, my interest in Tunisian crochet was rekindled. So I have invested in this book;

I hadn’t ordered a hook as I wasn’t sure what size I would need, and I was hoping to get one that would go on to the cables of my circular needles.  Thanks to Chrissy from Stitiched-together for pointing me in the right direction for that.

Now I am getting ready for sock knitting with Mimi of Eskimimi makes;

It’s just a cheap yarn for now as I am expecting to mess up, but that’s okay, it’s all a learning curve right? 🙂 I’ll try and get it in early before the wine kicks in though. 😉 Ooh, and I’ve just been told there will be D’aim cake – whoo! 😀

Until tomorrow folks…

It’s arrived!

Just a quickie to let you know that my swap parcel has arrived and is being blogged about here. I can’t wait to read about day two tomorrow!

I’ve added Sam’s blanket to my project page, but it’s not complete yet.

Hope you all have a great weekend. I know I will! 😀

Ooh, an annual occurrence…

Ladies and gentleman, I am pleased to announce that there will be a 3rd annual blog week this year!

Blog Week Banner

New Blog Week!

You can see from the little banner above that it will run from 23rd-29th of April this year, so spread the word and help to make it the biggest Blog Week yet (there are prizes too!). If you would like more information or to register please visit

My DPN’s have a arrived. Mimi was right, they are tiny (as in thin, they are still 15cm/6″ long)!

Sock DPNs

My Sock DPNs

I have yet to dig some yarn out, but I can do that on Saturday. Sock knitting – yeah!

That’s all for today folks, I need to actually go and do something to blog about.

See you tomorrow. 🙂

Puffing away…

Before you ask, no, I don’t smoke. I’m referring to the other addictive form of puffing, making hexipuffs.

Last year a pattern came out that has created a whirlwind of activity in knitting circles, that pattern is The Bee Keeper’s Quilt.

It is basically a blanket made up of hundreds of knitted hexagons, all stuffed just a little bit. You don’t have to stuff them though, those in warmer climates have been making hexiflats instead!

I started it around November last year, but I think it will continue to be a WiP long past November of this year.

Avid readers will remember that Day 1 of the Blog Hub swap had me unwrapping Mini Skeins which are perfectly sized to make puffs with, Natalie mentioned that I should be able to make two puffs out of each skein, turns out she was right.

I am so pleased with them, it’s given me my puffing mojo back too. AND I’ve added my quilt to my project page now, complete with photographs and everything.

This is where I am so far;

They are coming along nicely, but I need to down needles yet again, I am determined to get Sam’s blanket finished if it’s the last thing I do, which it may very well be…

Until tomorrow!

Remember the Blog Hub Swap?

I thought you might. 😉

Well, Natalie has chosen a pattern for me!

It’s the Blue Jean Wrap by Monique Gascon.

Blue Jean Wrap Pattern

I’ve had a look though it and it seems quite straight forward, there is only one problem. I need to buy the correct weight yarn for it. This means I need to go yarn shopping, I can see how you are all devastated for me! 😀

I would like to thank Vivianne, Voie de Vie and Faith for their suggestions and support. As promised, if you want to forward me your address (on Rav), I will pop a little something in the post for you as a thank you. 🙂

Right, I’m off to browse for worsted weight yarn!

Now the Blog Hub Swap 2012 is all but over for me (there will be follow up posts though – oh yes), I’m a little at a loss for what to blog about. I am one for wanting to get to certain stages before writing about things.

I have found this week to be quite a learning curve though. I haven’t touched my blog for a while and there have been software updates that I needed to find out about and work around/correct. I also found where to do my own coding, that would be a nice touch for the future I think.

I’ve learned how to add things to my Wish List on Ravelry, I’d only ever added things to my favourites before. It’s all prepared now for Natalie to choose my pattern (I told you there’d be follow up posts).

I’ve added all of my stash that I have photographed to my stash page. There is more to do, but I’ll wait until I can get yarn + camera together.

I’ve made several hexipuffs, and will hopefully get something on my project pages before the end of the week. I want to learn how to get my WiPs to display on my blog too.

There is also my victim’s blog to look forward to reading, I’m drumming my fingers waiting for her package to arrive.

I realise this blog post is a list really, but I suppose that that is what organisation is about, and boy did I need to get organised.

Not even a photo today, maybe later on in the week, I have lots to document I promise.

Hopefully more tomorrow, don’t go too far!

Blog Hub Swap 2012 Day 7

Well, today is a bit of a double edged sword, happy that I have a present to open, but also sad that it is my last one. I can see only one solution, all my avid readers need to send me gifts so I can blog about them! 😀

So, onto today, the last lonely present;

Last Present

Last Lonely Present

I’ve had a squidge and I really can’t decide what’s in it, something long, and something bitty…

I have notions! There is a needle gauge on a handy ring, a tape measure and some really pretty stitch markers all in a pretty pink bag. Take a closer look at these stitch markers, some of the beads are tiny little roses.

Pattern update; Non today I’m afraid, but it’s early yet and I’m hoping to spend some time sifting later on this afternoon/evening.

Puff update;

Puff Number Six

Anyone for Skiing?

This puff made me giggle, at first I thought that maybe the white bits were where dye had missed the yarn, not that it matters in a puff to be honest. The more I knit, the more I decided it looked like a Norwegian style ski jumper! To be fair it doesn’t have the same effect in that photograph, I put it down to the extra light we have today, but last night in the living room this little puff was planning it’s summer skiing holiday. 😀

Well, a big thank you to Natalie for being my blog swap stalker. I’ve had great fun and loved everything that you have sent to me, you did an excellent job with very little information.

There will be more updates to come as I’ve get to get the pattern sorted out and there are more puffs to knit, so this won’t be the last you hear of it I’m sure.

Also, I took the dressing off my finger yesterday so I can knit and type normally again now, must just remember to apologise to my victim for not being as capable as I would have liked when putting her package together.

Hope you are all having a lovely sunny Sunday too!

Blog Hub Swap 2012 Day 6

It’s yarn day! 😀 I knew what this parcel would contain as it’s the rules that we send 100gms of new yarn to our victims;

Unopened Yarn

Unopened Yarn

I couldn’t get it out of it’s packaging quickly enough!

Isn’t it lovely?! It’s Hand dyed BFL in Chrysanthemum and it’s so beautifully soft. I’ve been coveting some BFL on Etsy for a while now, but not actually bought myself any because I was waiting until I become a better knitter (might never happen let’s face it). I love the colour too, in natural day light (what little we have of that today) it looks like the sweets ‘Fruit Salad’s, but in the artificial light, it looks very orange. It’s ace, what else is there to say?

Yarn Colours

Beautiful Yarn Colours

It’s also quite appropriate as this year I have committed to knitting my first pair of socks (I shan’t use this though through fear of ruining it while I learn). I am visiting my friend Mimi in a few weeks, and she will be teaching me ( shh though, I haven’t told her yet).

Pattern update; I don’t really have one today I’m afraid, it’s been a busy day but I plan to work on it some more tomorrow.

Puff update;

Puff Five

Puff Number Five

Hmm, you can’t really see it from that photograph, but this yarn is in beautiful Jewel colours. The areas that look blue are more of a green. I tried to take it in as much natural light as possible, hence the window behind my hand, but you can also see the rain and guess the dullness outside that I was battling with.  Bottom line – it is lovely, even if I did fasten it up after a couple of glasses of wine…

Oh, also number two son got my soap open! I can’t put my finger on what I smells of, but it’s like old fashioned soap – smells of clean and grannies (in a good way!).

I can’t believe it’s my last parcel tomorrow, I won’t know what to do without my little gifts to open.

Blog Hub Swap 2012 Day 5

Day five already, say it ain’t so!

Today I chose one of the little pink packages, again it was all shiney;

Tiny package

Tiny Pink Package

They say that great things come in small packages, I would have to agree!

Pretty Bracelets

Three Pretty Bracelets

If you can read the note that comes with them, it says that Natalie hopes I like them, well I sure do! They are handmade as per the rules (that at least one item has to be hand made, I am lucky, I have had two with the card). One has a star on it, one has a star and two moons and the third is my favourite, a ball of yarn and a made with love charm!

Check these out;

My favourite!

Sorry it’s a bit blurry, I’ll try and take another one tomorrow. But isn’t it brilliant?!

Pattern update: I have been through all of the shawl patterns on Ravelry, so need to weed out further now (I must have about 500 favourited…) and put some in my wish list, that is on this weekend’s to-do list.

Puff update: A beautiful burnt orange one, I just love this colour, it is so warm and bright yet cosy too;

Orange Puff

Coming along quite nicely I think!

What about my own stalking package? Well I parcelled it all up;

Swap Package

and sent it on it’s merry way.

Unfortunately, when I got home I realised that the lady in the post office hadn’t given me one of those white customs stickers to fill in. I’m keeping everything crossed that it doesn’t all become unwrapped by customs on it’s way to my victim.

Off to do another puff now, more fun tomorrow!
