Panda Hat

Home  >>  Knitting  >>  Panda Hat

This post is really a celebration of my Christmas present to myself. I had rather an unexpected sort of Christmas, so with my new found Christmas cash, treated myself to my first set of circular needles!

I brought some Knit Pro interchangable wood ones after some advice from a friend and some (a lot) of looking around the internet by myself.

My present, to me.

I found the cheapest set onย  good old eBay the seller was artofyarn and I highly recommend them (I should even leave feedback really…).

Anyway, much excitement ensued as I started on my project (pushing my poor socks into my UFO bag).ย  I used a free pattern from Ravelry by Lion Brand Yarn.ย  I had bought the yarn in a sale at my YLS, I had two balls of King Cole ‘Sprinkles’ yarn, 100% polyester (50g/65 yards/60 mtrs) one each in black and white.

Starting the project was exciting as I’d never used circulars before, casting on was easy enough, but! I needed a stitch marker. Erm… Turns out it’s surprising what you can do with a plastic tie from a pack of freezer bags! ๐Ÿ˜€

The main part of the hat was done in an evening with the associated embellishments being done the next night. Pro tip – do not try to sew them on with this yarn – it was a nightmare and I would never do it again!

I’m quite pleased with the finished result though;

I was really pleased! I’d knitted it for my granddaughter and couldn’t wait to show it to her.

She came for tea that evening and loved it! ๐Ÿ˜€ What a pity it was actually too small for her, it didn’t even reach her ears… There was a lesson in swatching and measuring.

All is not lost, the hat will go to a good home and I shall knit her another one the next size up (and measure it this time…)

I’m actually on to project number two now, it’s a gift though so a secret until it’s done. I have actually made myself some proper stitch markers now too, so watch this space!

    Yea! hat!

    Yea – Pandas!

    That hat looks absolutely great! I love that one of the ears looks just slightly bigger than the other – it adds to the cute so very much!

    Also, pokey tongued panda – win!
